Face Forward believes that highly productive living in the face of HIV is possible. This
solution focused, non-profit foundation has been created to help people effectively manage both the physical
aspects and psychological ramifications of the illness. Face Forward is about forward thinking; committed to dynamic action and empowered living.
Through this website and through proactive activities in the community, Face Forward provides support in
three ways:
Appearance matters.
As much as we might sometimes like to think it shouldn't, our appearance strongly defines our
life - from the outside in. One challenging side effect of the antiretroviral therapies that
control the virus' progression is Lipoatrophy, a condition that causes unsightly - and telltale -
facial wasting. Lipoatrophy effectively brands people with AIDS and has proven to impact not only
self-confidence, but often the very will to live.
Injectible treatments that eradicate the signs of Lipoatrophy have recently been developed and
cosmetic surgeons and dermatologists across Canada are beginning to administer them. Face Forward
provides in depth information on the procedure and can guide people towards it through a network
of participating physicians coast to coast.
Face Forward knows that appearance matters but so does cost; many people who are living with AIDS
and suffering from Lipoatrophy cannot afford these procedures that can correct it. Face Forward is
developing a program of financial support for those who can't afford treatment through its network
of physicians who will perform the procedure at a reduced fee or through financial support offered
by the product's manufacturers and sponsors.
Living is Action.
Passionate about living, committed to solutions and personal empowerment, Face Forward recognizes
the challenges of living with HIV but believes that living successfully is living dynamically. The
Life Coaching movement, where highly trained personal coaches support people in defining and reaching
their goals, is dramatically impacting the therapeutic landscape. Because of life coaching's strong support
and emphasis on action and personal empowerment, Face Forward is making coaching available to people living
with AIDS. Through alliances with a network of committed, HIV knowledgeable coaches, foundation coaching
